Photo Essay- A visit to Wet Market ( Pix 1)

This picture taken quite sometime ago shows a vegetable seller getting ready for business as she piles up the goods for sale. The wide variety of fresh vegetables draws buyers who are mainly housewives some of whom come daily for the freshiest and best buy.

There are many stalls, besides vegetables there are also fruit stalls offering a wide selection of fruits. The meat, fish and poultry stalls are segreated in the market. Pork is a non-halal food and therefore the pork stalls are not noticeable unless you look for the signage.

The wet market may not be as clean and comfortable as air-conditioned supermarkets but it still draws the crowd with its morning fresh greens, meats , fish and freshly-slaughtered chickens. The prices here are also reasonable

  1. Nice photo! Where you took this photo and it looks familiar to me.

  2. Hi Shuttertalk,

The photo taken in the wet market Old Town Petaling Jaya.

  3. You have taken such real pictures of the Wet Market. I feel like I’m there. I didn’t know about such open markets. All of ours are closed and in ’supermarkets’. I think yours would be fresher products.
Also, I did not know about this other blog of yours. I like your pictures and will keep looking.

  4. Gaye,

Thanks for your comments. There are many wet markets over here but these are not as clean as the supermarket. We can get the good here cheaper.

This new template, monotone theme of wordpress changes color to compliment the photo I post. The size of photo is flexible and able to post in a bigger size if I want.

Just try it out and hope you will like it.

  5. Chrisy, I will check the new template out…called ‘monotone theme’.
Thanks for that help. This blog has a great look to it.
I went to the SOUK in Tunis and they had the ‘wet market’….but I could have gotten lost in there if I’d not been with a Tunisian. I’ve never seen anything so big and confusing. Does your ‘wet market’ sell everything everyday. They’d have to sell the fish and meats or they’d go bad without refrigeration. The sellers of those products have to work very hard and it must be a hard life.

  6. The wet market open everyday and they sell everything. The workers there start working early as 4am in the morning to prepare themselves and to receive their goods. They have refrigerators and they keep the fish cold with ice cube at the open stall.
